hello! this is yifan!
here is a website that i just put together!
below is me trying to use outline awkwardly >v<
several things currently living on my yunohost server which is running from a server rented from DigitalOcean in Singapore:
-
a meet-us room!
-
meet the server friend hosting our page! (also inviting everyone interested to make a similar page and we can all link that into our etherpad webring or as a meet-server-friend web ring!)
-
a collaborative wordpress blog for Chinese leftist writings (working with a friend on this. his fav WeChat blog archiving these writings have recently been taken down and we are thinking about starting our own!) and this will be accessible within the firewall as the DigitalOcean IP is not banned
seeds that will grow:
-
Christian Ulrik Andersen & Geoff Cox. Toward a Minor Tech
-
International Trans★Feminist Counter-Cloud Strike: Dancing in the ruins of Big Tech
-
The Community Memory Project: An Introduction, Berkeley 1982
-
i will add more!!!
some questions/invitations:
-
how to make intentionally-mystified and abstracted technologies and infrastructures tangible? (sometimes it's hard to communicate what that visceral experience feels like and on the surface everything sorta looks the same (etherpad or google docs, both appearing on my browser, one click away - but it's so different!!! how can i explain this!!) - varia servers)
-
how to get people (friends and family, moms and dads) excited about or interested in these issues without making things sound even more distancing and irrelevant?
-
what is the role of network/online technologies in the offline scenario? what does the offline space and time mean for online communities/solidarity? (been thinking about radio projects or local private networks, which are usually limited in terms of physical-distance reach. so people kinda need to be at one place or close to each other to use these technologies. but if people are already close to each other, we could just talk? what are the ways and situations for us to need/best use the devices' mediation?)
